Calonge and Sant Antoni de Calonge

Why is the Costa Brava municipality of Calonge such a favorite holiday destination of British, French, German and Dutch tourists?
To start with, there is the medieval town of Calonge, the heart of the municipality, situated at the foot of the Gavarres Mountains and just over a mile inland from the Mediterranean. With its 12th century castle, the church of Sant Martí and the Carrier de Càcul, Calonge is steeped in history and culture. While the town evolved around the castle and church of Sant Marti, excavation has proved the area to have been populated since ancient times, when the Romans used it as a holiday villa. Excellent weekly markets and a renowned annual music festival round out the town’s appeal.

The area surrounding the town is a natural beauty lover’s paradise, offering mountain and countryside strolls through vineyards, fields and forests. Some of the most interesting places to explore are the Puig Ses Forques, the caves of Ronquillo and the Castell Barri. For the more adventurous, there is also a series of cycling paths throughout the area.
The modern resort town of Sant Antoni de Calonge is situated on the coast at the very centre of the Costa Brava and has some of the most beautiful beaches along the Mediterranean. The beaches of Sant Antoni de Calonge are less crowded and more family-friendly than the ones further south at Platja d’ Aro, with numerous magical coves waiting to be explored. Friendly terrace bars and pleasant restaurants line the streets along the beachfront where the relaxed Costa Brava vibe lingers in the air.

A coastal path links Sant Antoni de Calonge to Palamos, the main port serving Girona during the Middle Ages. Founded in 1279 by Peter II of Aragon, Palamos has the second largest fishing fleet on the Costa Brava as well as a highly regarded fish market. Its prawns are among the most prized in Spain.
Palamos also boasts one of the most beautiful stretches of sandy beach along the Costa Brava and an active marina with plentiful bars, nightclubs, cafes and stores. During the summer months, it is packed with tourists from around the world.

See you soon !!!
